Day 1: Addis Ababa – Semera – Ahmedela
Fly or drive from Addis Ababa to Semera, where you will meet your guide for a briefing on Ethiopia’s geology and the Danakil program. Continue towards the Danakil Depression, stopping in Afdera town to see the vast salt lake and observe traditional salt mining. Drive further to Ahmedela, a small settlement where salt caravans gather. Overnight under the stars in open air camping at 125 meters below sea level.

Day 2: Ahmedela – Dallol – Erta’ale
After an early breakfast, drive to Dallol, famous for its surreal salt domes, colorful geothermal pools, sulphur springs and geysers. Explore the alien like landscape and the nearby salt canyons. En route to Erta’ale, observe traditional salt extraction and camel caravans crossing the salt flats. In the afternoon, reach Erta’ale and hike to the summit crater to witness the active lava lake. Return to your camp for overnight under the desert sky.

Day 3: Erta’ale – Semera – Addis Ababa
Wake up early for a sunrise visit to the Erta’ale crater and observe volcanic activity in a different light. Descend for breakfast at the campsite and begin the drive back to Semera, with an optional stop at Lake Afdera to swim and enjoy the nearby hot springs. In the late afternoon transfer to Semera airport for your flight back to Addis Ababa concluding the adventure.
